Syelo Ventures #003
December 2024
This month represents a milestone as we officially celebrate the one year anniversary of our formal launch. 2024 was a wild ride. Building a community during a financial bust is no easy task especially for recruiters in tech.
Throughout the year we found ourselves constantly testing, validating, building, pivoting and trying new things. Funny enough 99% of those decisions led us down the wrong path, ultimately wasting cash and time - but 1% of the time we found something special.
One of those things led us down the right path and in August everything started to click.
Below is a timeline of our roadmap to pivoting:
January-March. Syelo is a paid community. $10k in revenue.
March-August. Syelo introduces a “free tier” of membership. Launches b2b consultancy services to subsidize revenue (to support freemium model). $25k in revenue.
October-Today. Syelo is a community backed investment fund. We trade human capital services for equity and cash. $250k in revenue in 90 days +$15k in stock allocation.
What clicked? Mission.
Talent Leaders are the ones who build audacious companies, yet very rarely are we capitalizing on the liquidity events of a successful exit. The best recruiting leaders in the world provide so much value and yet our function is under appreciated and unrecognized.
Historically, recruiting has never had a unified voice simply because we were never positioned to do so. As a community based venture fund, that changes. With over 250 limited partners in tech we now have the network, capital, and expertise to deliver outstanding performance for our investments.
The biggest lie ever told in talent acquisition is that recruiting is simple. The truth is the best recruiters in the world are master networkers/connectors, evangelists, project managers, and leaders - who better to run a venture fund?
By coming together as an investment vehicle we capitalize on the collective genius and horsepower of an entire community.
When we think about what we are really building we think of one company:
Berkshire Hathaway in 1976.
As a team we are incredibly excited for 2025 and plan to make 4-6 bold bets across AI, Robotics, and bleeding edge software/hardware. We look forward to building with you.
Happy Holidays!
